  • Abstract: As major public infrastructure, sports stadiums contribute not only to regional economic development but also exert long-term influence on the surrounding environment, transportation, and daily life. To define the spatial boundary and temporal duration of these effects, this study integrates multi-source geospatial data to measure regional development, combining baseline indicators with a composite index of urban vitality. Interrupted time series (ITS) and fixed-effects models are applied to identify the spatial extent of stadium-led impacts and assess their temporal dynamics. Evidence from 39 large stadiums in China shows that their impact on surrounding vitality is limited in both space and time. Spatially, the impact is most pronounced within 5 km, with a marked decline observed beyond that range. Temporally, the effect is strongest in the first two years after completion and diminishes steadily over time. The effects also vary significantly across stadiums. In many cases, venues lacking supportive functions and urban integration fail to convert short-term, event-driven surges into sustained local vitality.
